SPEAKER_02

Well, good morning to everyone. Um so glad uh you're with us today. Hope you get a lot out of what we're gonna be talking about this morning. And may God bless you.

SPEAKER_03

Man, good morning and good day to everybody out there. This is Antoine. Hope everybody's having a good day so far and had a blessed week.

SPEAKER_04

And I'm Richard, and I'm here finally from missing last week. Yay! Feel real good. Uh got me a nice little praise report and just feeling blessed and uh happy 26th uh pastoral anniversary to my bishop, Joel C. David C.

SPEAKER_00

He'll be with us later on this year.

SPEAKER_04

Amen.

SPEAKER_00

Thank you, Lord. And before we get started into this topic, for uh, I want to good morning, Tanya. Welcome, yeah. I want to uh ask everybody in Podcast Land, as Antoine says it, uh to keep uh Kenny covered. You know, Kenny is our uh the hand, the five of us, the fifth wheel is not here. So we're asking that you will continue to cover Kenny in prayer uh as he's dealing with his illness. Uh we don't talk about it that much, but uh he we desire the prayers of the righteous. Amen. We are desiring the prayers of everybody who loves Kenny who don't love him. Just pray, say a prayer of healing over him, Father God, in the name of Jesus.

SPEAKER_04

And we love you, brother Kenny.

SPEAKER_00

Yes, we love you, Antonio, all to the family. We're praying for you. Amen. Yeah, during this period. Uh, but the topic that we're talking about, the first topic is entitled Uh Covetousness. We're gonna dive into what we as believers need to know about the covetous lifestyle. The word covet in Hebrew is shamad or a va Avach. I'm sorry, Avach, which means an intense desire that can be bad or good depending on the object or meaning to crave. It means to crave, to long for, or lust, which usually comes before a sinful action that often leads to wanting or taking something from someone else. I'm gonna say that again. It means an intense desire that can be bad or good, depending on the object, meaning to crave, long for, or lust, which usually comes before a sinful action that leads to wanting or taking something from someone else. The word coveting is also talked about a lot in the Bible, uh, but is first mentioned in the tenth commandment, which are which are found in Exodus 2017. Exodus 2017, and Deuteronomy, Deuteronomy, Deuteronomy, Deuteronomy. Deuteronomy. Yeah. 5 and 21. I should have just said do.

SPEAKER_01

What's my remote?

SPEAKER_00

Romani.

SPEAKER_01

Deuteronomies.

SPEAKER_00

Uh it says, you shall not covet your neighbor's house, wife, or anything that belongs to your neighbor. Now I'm paraphrasing that. That you can go and read it for yourself. And in Romans chapter 7, Paul talks about coveting also. We're gonna go into detail about that later. But now that I'm thinking about it, family, Eve was the first person to covet in Genesis 3:6, because Eve saw that the fruit was desirable. She set her heart on something forbidden. Adam and Eve had bad intentions because A, they wanted the wisdom that God hadn't given them, or B, they wanted to be like God, and C, they wanted what was forbidden at the end of the day. Coveting is so spiritually dangerous because it's not just wanting something, it's desiring what God hasn't given us, family. It replaces the trust, gratitude, and peace we should have by trusting God to give us what we need. The reason we're discussing this today is because some of us really don't understand how extremely serious coveting is. It's a heart sin that leads to every other sin. Now, I uh one, you know, I now I like to talk about somebody in the Bible that covered it or that does what the topic is. Uh, the person that jumped out at me in the word who covered it was Achon, I think that's the way you pronounce it. A-C-H-A-N. He appears only in Joshua chapter 7, yet his covetousness is one of the clearest in scripture. Uh, after God commanded Israel not to take anything from Jericho, uh, I'm gonna call it Achan. I forgot how you pronounce it. Achan. Achan. He Achan secretly took a beautiful Babylonian garment robe, 200 shekels of silver, a bar of gold, and hid them under his tent, thinking no one would know. Joshua 725 says, uh, then Joshua said to Achan, Why have you brought trouble on us? The Lord will now bring trouble on you. Uh and all the Israelite uh Israelites stoned him and his family and burned their bodies. Woo! You talking about a repercussion of coveting. But I'm gonna uh stop there and I'm gonna open it up to the uh co-host.

SPEAKER_02

I heard you say in your the introduction about um it's a difference because some sometimes you cover things and you don't mean evil by it. Right. So I wanted to kind of just bring out that one word. Um because we're talking about covetousness. Yes. That means you continually doing something because it's in your heart. It's embedded in your heart to do some evil stuff.

SPEAKER_07

Yes.

SPEAKER_02

Um, but when we covered, and I'm saying this because of uh my experience, you know, because I wanted something that somebody, you know, that somebody had, you know, maybe a certain car or something like that. But I didn't mean no evil towards them to go and say, Well, if I don't get it, I'm gonna go steal theirs. You know, uh, but covetousness take you to that point. Yeah. You talked about the action behind it. Yeah. So uh even in reading, uh, I'll read it too. Uh this is the King James, right? It says uh in Exodus uh 20 and 17, thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's house. Yes, nor shall you not cover thy neighbor's wife. When it gets to that, that's lust.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Because now you talk about a whole person. So even covetousness in your heart, because that's what Jesus said, you know what I'm saying? Uh hey, you commit adultery if you even look upon the woman and lust after her in your heart. You have committed that's somebody else's wife or you know, somebody else's uh fiance. So just covenant, it it hid and miss in your life, you know. And and I try to not try to justify it because it's wrong all the way. But when you said that, that that made me think about the difference. Yeah. When you when you're walking in covetousness, that means you, that's your way of life, that's what you do. Yeah, you know, and those are dangerous type of people.

SPEAKER_00

Amen.

SPEAKER_02

Very, very dangerous. I just want to kind of bring that out a little bit.

SPEAKER_00

To piggyback off of what you said, because I thought of I prayed about this because uh I'm like, Lord, have mercy, how am I coveting? Uh, because I believe all of us have coveted in one way or the other. Uh but I thought about the good part about coveting, like, I really want to learn. I'm not capable. I pray about it. Like how people will quote scriptures right off the flat. My pastor does it. Yeah, he uh Exodus 4 24 says somebody and then you go to Romans. I'm like, God, dog, Pat does that too. Uh, but I'm not, I don't have that gift, but I'm not coveting. That's what I'm getting at. Right. I just wish, yeah, I just or a desire.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, that's your desire.

SPEAKER_03

It's like a jealous way, but more of a vibrational way. That's right.

SPEAKER_02

That's the yeah. And when we desire certain things, that's a different thing because God even gives us the desires of our hearts. Yeah. So when it's in right standing with him, you know, I don't think it's uh like the bad thing, you know, this is what you want. But um I I think it's fair is healthy when you desire certain things, you know what I'm saying? Like that. And we ask God and he gives it to us. But he knows what's good for us, too. Amen. Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

I think um the difference is uh in the Bible, covetousness is an excessive, obsessive desire for possessions, wealth or status that belong to someone else. Yeah, it is rooted in discontent and a misplaced trust in material things rather than God, which is why the Bible equates it to idolatry. That's what I hear jokingly how people talk about um athletes and movie stars. Like, man, if I had that money, I would do blah, blah, blah, and blah, blah, blah. And then you see them try to uh equate their own life to that, or how do I achieve that? And they start to reach for those uh particular goals and places and statuses in life that take what they don't realize take you further and further away from God because now you're starting to uh obsess over it and it gets excessive. You know, that's the difference between um desiring something or the thin line between desire and covetousness. You know, uh, and if it belongs to somebody, that may get you into like the envious jealousy part of it, and that's all creating a dark heart because out of the heart, the mouth speaks, right? You know, so you gotta be kind of careful with that. And um, hopefully, y'all in uh podcast land, y'all taking notes about this now.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, and I I like how he said that because it is associated with envy, yes, sir. You know, so you start hating on that person and all that. That's you was talking about that action. You start hating on them if you can't get it, you start conjuring up stuff, how to do it, ruin them, you know. That's just envy. Yeah, that's sad, but it's happening. More and more.

SPEAKER_03

And envy is another, it can fall along with it too. When I was reading that statement, that quote that people say the keeping up with the Joneses. Yeah, I never viewed it from that perspective. But when I was researching, it came up. Yeah. And I was like, well, I never thought of it like that. Like when I heard, every time I thought covet, for some reason, I didn't this open my eyes to it from a whole different perspective. Because at first I just, when it's when it was brought upon, it was almost like it was always like a sexual thing. That's right, that's right. Pretty much like messing with somebody's wife or something like that. So that's the perception I was given. But going through the research, it has a lot of layers to it.

SPEAKER_00

Yes, it does. Yes.

SPEAKER_03

Like the um, especially like the keeping up the jungles that mess me up. Uh um, uh and the actual Bible uh verse to go on with the Philippians 4 and 1. Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. So it's like instead of, and there's so many people we know are like that though. It's like you want to try to, you looking at somebody, want to emulate them instead of instead of, for one, it's one of two ways to go about it. Work hard enough to get it or put the effort to get it.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

And else just have a clear understanding that it may not be meant for you.

SPEAKER_00

That's right.

SPEAKER_03

And so it's a it's the thing about it is finding the humility um in within that. That's the key part about uh that I learned through the covetedness, is being humble instead of focusing on what somebody else has, just be grateful for what you do have and be thankful. And on top of that, give them the glory for having what you have. Because again, everything that that you want is may not be meant for you. That's a problem that I think of true everybody faces in life, because it'd be some things like, man, I want that bad, man. I've been wanting this for so long, but you never know. God may be saving you from something, isn't it? You may not be able to handle that certain thing or situation, whether it be monetarily or may it be a material thing. It may, it's just not meant for you. And coming to the uh humility within it is just getting a clear understanding that, man, I'm just be happy. God has blessed you in the and this set. He said he never forsakes you, so why would you even be focused on that? Um, but I don't know. I never kind of I thought about this at first. I'm like, man, I ain't never really been to that. I ain't never like messing with nobody. Somebody's taken. But then when I but the broadness of it, especially for the adultery aspect, yes. I was like, wow, it hit different.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. Yes. Yeah. Can I give a scripture on what uh Rich was saying about adultery? Uh it's in Colossians, the third chapter, and the fifth verse. This is where it really states it at the end of the verse, it says, and covetousness, which is adultery. Yep.

SPEAKER_00

It says it.

SPEAKER_02

You know, and what I when I was studying, I found that it is closely associated with envy, but this actually states that it is adultery. Yeah, it is. So because you rather worship some uh possession, somebody's possession or some goods, you know, uh, instead of trusting God. If I mean everybody don't believe in God, everybody, you know what, but this is taking away of what he could do for you. You know, what God can do for you. Because what you've covetous is he might want, you know, want something a little better for you. And that's so you're missing out.

SPEAKER_00

That's right. Amen. Because that's the key. You all just said what's for somebody else might not be for you, and you wouldn't even know how to handle it. You know, that's why God is the is magnificent. I love that word. I uh y'all know I it hit me how magnificent God is, because He gives us what we need according to what we can handle. And that's where uh coveting is invisible but deadly. You can see murder, adultery, or theft, but you can't see coveting because it's just as but it's just as destructive. Yes, it hides, grows, and eventually, bam, here you go, outward sin is shown.

SPEAKER_02

Yes.

SPEAKER_00

Now I'm gonna give you some instances how coveting can lead to other sins. A breakdown is theft. Wanting what someone else has, I want it and I'm gonna take it.

SPEAKER_02

That's it.

SPEAKER_00

Adultery, we just said, desiring someone else's spouse, I want them even if they're not mine, because they look better with me. Murder is jealousy, rivalry, envy when uh Cain killed Abel. That's uh uh example right there. Because he coveted God's uh approval. Lying, protecting what you gain through coveting. I'll lie to keep what I shouldn't have. Idolatry, wanting something more than God. This thing will satisfy me more than God will. I I'd rather have uh that than God. Dishonoring your parents, wanting independence, control, or freedom outside of God's order. Who we gotta think about there's certain things that we don't even consider when it comes to certain sins. Like, I don't even remember how this topic came to me, but I'm like, boy, I see the growth in myself, but I was a coveter. She said comforter. I was a coveto.

SPEAKER_04

She said comforter.

SPEAKER_00

She said coveted.

SPEAKER_04

Cover.

SPEAKER_00

I used to, we used to still uh not try to be funny, even when you was a child. We used to go to that uh free, huh? Yeah, it's free.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, we used to say when we was younger.

SPEAKER_00

And it was well, we grown now. No, no, we're gonna be a big group. That was uh uh a drugstore on the corner of Virginia and what is that, Merrimack? Well, I had a pair of shades for I'm sorry, Crables. Right, that's what it I had a pair of shades for every day of the week. I was giving them to people. I don't know why. Um family, y'all tell the truth, Shame of Death. But I stole shades and chunky bars. Don't you do? I just thought about it.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, M Lem Garden used to be short. Can I get you that? I'm dropping all candy bars. I can go to school. I got a pocket full of candy bars. Oh my goodness. Oh man, we can laugh now, but no, it's the truth.

SPEAKER_03

That's it.

SPEAKER_02

Yes.

SPEAKER_03

Because who it should never be started.

SPEAKER_00

We don't even think about how being kids, even at that age, how we could have got busted.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

How the arms of protection are around us at all times. Or even killed.

SPEAKER_03

Wow. Yeah. You know, the wild thing, what you just said, especially that part. And I ain't gonna go long, we're gonna go along this part, but when we was younger, as you can tell, me, we had a pass of doing that, especially just stealing. And um, God rest I saw my brother Dink. We almost got locked up for stealing one time at Walgreens. But the thing they didn't catch us, they just said they saw us, but they couldn't find an onus because we had gave it to my other brother and he ran to the house. And we were so bold, we walked right past the Walgreens again to go to 7-Eleven, walk back past to go back home, and that's when the police put us over. Wow. So that's Grace right there.

SPEAKER_02

Yes.

SPEAKER_04

Wow. Can I add a layer to please do? Uh one of those examples you had was murder. So I wanna I wanna take a take a second to speak to the so-called so-called street guy. The so-called gang member, the so-called gangster.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

You do realize that that phrase back door is the root of covetedness. You won't What your friend got, so you set him up.

SPEAKER_00

Wow.

SPEAKER_04

And get him up off this earth because you were uh dealing with covetedness.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

And we hear it time and time again. Not just Cain and Abel, we see it still going on to this day, brother on brother, uh, cousin on cousin, family on family, friend on friend. And not knowing that covetousness is the root of it.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

And I'ma just leave that right there because we done seen it happen in our own lives and with our own family and friends. You know, so when you say that phrase bag do, know that you're saying covetousness.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. That's true. That's breaking down the hood, Tommy Nazi.

SPEAKER_02

That's good. No, that's good. But David, y'all, I've been sitting here just pondering on it. Uh David in uh 2 Samuel, the 11th chapter. He it talks about the whole story of David, and it's all about covetousness. He he saw that beautiful woman. Yeah, sure. Know she was married to Uriah. Yeah. And because he was the king, he took great advantage of both situations. He put Uriah on the front line and had that man murdered that man killed. Just to take his wife. And then you begging God to keep the baby.

SPEAKER_00

Ain't that something?

SPEAKER_03

It was a couple stuff. We talked about that. That was somebody like that too. What was Jezebel's husband. Yes. When she killed that one person because he was jealous of what. Nabet. Nabet. Yes, I was just reading. I don't even remember his name. I'm talking about here. I was just reading at this point. Ahab covered. They killed the case. That was covered.

SPEAKER_02

They covered that in 1 Kings. Oh, hello. Check, check. So, but that's, you know, that's that's woo. Man, when you think about it, it's a whole lot of people biblically, you know, that we can talk about that that really had covetousness in the world. That was really crazy because he had her killed. He had, yeah.

SPEAKER_03

And she could, that was, man, that was that was yeah, that was a good read, but it was crazy.

SPEAKER_02

He wanted they wanted his vineyard. Now you could grow your homeland over there.

SPEAKER_04

Uh-huh. Next to your palace.

SPEAKER_02

To your palace.

SPEAKER_04

But you want a vineyard. But you want the vineyard. You got a palace, but you want his venue. Greed. Greed. Greed. I was gonna lie.

SPEAKER_02

Very associated again with another word. Yeah?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. No, go ahead.

SPEAKER_02

That noise getting on my nerves.

SPEAKER_00

But this this um this topic goes, it's so broad, it is, but yet convinced. Because there's so many sins that are connected to covetousness. And boy the cure for coveting is God doesn't say don't covet, he gives us the remedy, which is contentment, gratitude, trust in God's timing, and delighting in the Lord. Family, remember, coveting is like a spark inside the heart. If not surrendered to God, it becomes a fire that burns through every commandment.

SPEAKER_02

Yes.

SPEAKER_00

Burns through every single commandment. Coveting dies when the heart is satisfied in God and with him. Uh, we have to, I want to ask you all a uh a couple of questions. You know I love to ask you questions to ponder over. New word, ponder. Have I said ponder here?

SPEAKER_01

Two points.

SPEAKER_00

Right. Uh what do I secretly believe I need in order to feel secure or successful? How do I compare myself to and what does that comparison reveal about my heart? Am I content with what God has provided, or I do I feel entitled to more? That's a really good question. Because this is something that you need to question yourself because you can perpetrate all day long. But is it something secretly that we really desire that we ain't admitting? Why do I want this particular thing or position or relationship or lifestyle? Is it for status? Why do why do I want that? I had to think about, you know, because when we started Vent 101, it sure wasn't about status. It's all about winning soul from the beginning. And some people, I know people have come in here for that. And we're gonna give, well, that's for next month. We're gonna give stats on how God is blessing this ministry. Uh but do we think that we're entitled to more than God has given us? Especially those of us that might be struggling. Think about if you do get it, we touch base on that. If he gave it to you, would you change? Because some people say, oh, I'm gonna be humble, but God will hold you back to keep you humble. There are some, like I'm I use myself as an example. Uh because I was wondering what how is Vim is Vim 101 doing good? But then God gave me the answer when I needed to hear it. You know, because if He hadn't, if He had given me the answer before, I might have got puffed up. And that's a sin. Wanting a podcast that is bigger than theirs. You see what I'm saying? Yeah, it can get it's it can it's detailed with each personal walk you have.

SPEAKER_04

Man, yes, you know, it also uh points to um heart posture. Yes, and God created you so he knows what your capacity is at a certain uh time in your life, so he knows he's not gonna give you more than you could bear. Let's just say so. Um it just speaks to heart posture. Yes, and and and and some people don't know their uh capacity. So and and understand that that is why they either get something as a in blessing from God or get denied something, you know, because of your capacity to handle it, you know.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, yeah. Uh do I desire money or possessions in a way that competes with my devotion to God?

SPEAKER_04

Wow.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. I'm gonna repeat that. Do I desire money or possessions in a way that competes with my devotion to God? One thing about it, we have to, and that's it that falls under the category of financial desires. If you're not giving to God, why are you expecting more? How can we expect God to give us plentiful? Not even plentiful. God, I'd be happy with the bare minimum. No, I want I want more, but what am I giving back to you in the process? He he sees us for who we are. There are so many people that expect so much uh financial prosperity from God and ain't put a dime in church, ain't gave to no ministry. You see what I'm saying? What are you giving back to God that would make him even want to help you? That's right. Drop my mic. And that's the truth. Yeah. Because I was that way before. This helps this really helped me uh to see my walk is how far I've come. Because I really didn't believe in giving that much to the church. I'm not gonna lie to you, because my bills exceeded. You see what I'm saying? Why hasn't I got a three, four hundred dollar electric bill, and I'm gonna give you 200 because I what? But when you allow yourself to be present in the presence of God and He starts, He starts pruning your heart and starts and you start opening, He He starts opening up your wisdom and your spirit to what you're supposed to do. Because only what we do for Christ, number one, is gonna last. And only what we do for Christ, if we don't give, how dare we ask for something in return?

SPEAKER_02

That's all right.

SPEAKER_00

He should give us the bare minimum life. Y'all tell me, tell me if I'm wrong. No, that's it. It's the truth.

SPEAKER_02

And I'm like, God damn. That was what I wrote last. Um, a good practice to um stay away from being covershness is to give. That's what he said. He told us, you know, to give. That's a big part. We won't be worried about what who got that over there, or that's because you give it. Yeah, and you're giving it because you talked about it, the heart posture. You're doing what God said. Uh can I read a little bit? Go ahead. Go right ahead. First Timothy. I hope I can see it right. Let me see. You need a job print.

SPEAKER_00

She needs a job print. Which one?

SPEAKER_03

Turn them on. Turn them up.

SPEAKER_00

Oh boy. Oop, I'm sniffing.

SPEAKER_02

Show them that are rich in this world, that they be not high-minded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God who giveth us richly all things to enjoy. Amen.

SPEAKER_00

Amen.

SPEAKER_02

I'm gonna skip down to uh 18. That they do good and they be rich in good works, ready to distribute and to be willing to communicate, laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, and that they may lay hold on eternal life. This is what we're working for. That's uh 1 Timothy 6 17 to 19. But that's that's the biggest thing to guard ourselves against covetousness, covetousness. You know, because Jesus said, you know, you see your a person in need, you know, you see somebody hungry, you know, feed them. If you see somebody naked, if you got clothing, clothe them. And that's where he dropped that on me in 1998 about giving. And that's when I started. June, no, I do Grace Fellowship missions. And that's what we do, we give. And people used to talk about me, you ain't got nothing, you ain't making no money. You how are you doing this? Don't worry about me, because this is between me and my father in heaven. If this is what he told me to do, this is what I'm and we've been going since. Yeah, amen. And I am truly blessed. That's true.

SPEAKER_00

Blessing your ministry.

SPEAKER_02

Hey, I don't miss a beat.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_07

Amen.

SPEAKER_00

God is truly grace fellowship. I'm getting off topic. But no, but if you all have clothing uh or anything, yeah, we're gonna talk about that next month at our anniversary. Amen. But uh we're gonna talk about all of that.

SPEAKER_03

Uh you know, one thing about what you said that hit me back when we was actually deacon to train, it it actually resonated about feeding the hungry. Yeah. And then how like a lot of times you go to a gas station or somewhere in the in the city or whatever, and somebody asks you for something. And if our first thing I ask them, are you hungry or do you want food? That's why you ask.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

And if they do, I try to, I most definitely try to my best to always get them something to eat. But sometimes they be true, like, nah, I just try and give me a beer, man.

SPEAKER_00

Right.

SPEAKER_03

But if they say they're hungry, I do my best to I go get them something. Uh well, no matter what. I if I got change or something, I'll give it to them. But because the main thing is it's not an ask. He said to do it.

SPEAKER_01

Right. Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

And it and for and that resonated with me here's back. And ever since then, I make a point. If somebody says they're hungry, I'll definitely give them something. Give them something. Well, I got something in my car, my leftover lunch I ain't eating. I'll give them that up. Just to give them something to make sure that they're eating.

SPEAKER_00

That's true. Just thinking about I was gone going to the rice, uh, get some Chinese food and uh piggybacking over what you said. This dude, he this homeless guy, I guess he was homeless because he was sitting on, that don't mean nothing, because he could be sitting on the sidewalk just begging. But he said, Hey, why you going in there? Get me a half order of chicken fried rice. No, he didn't. He said, You boned up the ass, okay. I got you. And he sat down, he devoured that rice. So I said, Thank you, Jesus. But then it was like he demanded, hey, why you at he said that why you going? Why you had to give me a half of the fried chicken chicken, chicken fried, dude? Yeah, you should have said plain. He won't be special fry. I guess if it had said shrimp, I would have been offended for real. Special fries.

SPEAKER_04

That's even the more testament to God knowing who we are and what we need. He knew that that would jerk you into the give it to this, because it kind of caught you off going. Yeah, I think you done. He's like, okay, it's a little abrasive and bold, but okay, you hungry. You know, that's that's the true testament to God know who we are and what we need. Amen. You know, uh, even the pastor last night that was given the word said, he knows what type of leader you need. And then as I sat there, I was like, oh wow. I understand what you're saying, man. It's the truth. Because, man, you know, I'm I'm a strong-willed young man at times. So my pastor got to be a strong-willed brother, too. You know what I'm saying? So I understand, you know, I've tried to keep a couple years, my own. I'm trying to maintain in these 40s. But yeah, man. But God knows what we need when we need it. Yes, you know, and he's supplying it. You know, so he knew that if that man said that to you, he would probably get a box of rice.

SPEAKER_03

Because your humor goes along with it too. You're like, hold on, did you say that for real?

SPEAKER_00

I was taking aback. Okay.

SPEAKER_03

I had somebody do the opposite. They had a number in their hand. Already ordered food tomorrow. Can you give me one of them ribs? I just look like you already finna eat. Did you get it? Nope.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, they had a number. You already had a number to get your food.

SPEAKER_03

Oh they already ordered the food. They wanted you to buy the food.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, now that is just now that's a little different.

SPEAKER_03

They feed the most.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, that that is coveting your money. God, look.

SPEAKER_03

Wow. I'm just looking how much rib sandwiches. You got a whole number. Yo, you wait on your order, dog.

SPEAKER_00

Ain't that something?

SPEAKER_07

I'm just putting them for me.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, yeah. But uh, before we close, I got a couple of more questions to ask you all.

SPEAKER_03

Because this is before you go to that.

SPEAKER_00

Huh? Go ahead.

SPEAKER_03

I just want to say this because this was one of the biggest parts of this that actually hit me, and it was mentioned earlier. Because I know we're about to close. I want to get this.

SPEAKER_01

No, you're fine.

SPEAKER_03

We got the lust one.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

When I looked up the definition of lust after seeing that, it says a strong desire for something that God has forbidden. Forbidden. Again, when I thought lust, it was a sexual thing. No, it's that hit way different when it said things that God has forbidden.

SPEAKER_00

Yes.

SPEAKER_02

I said, ooh. Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

It hit, it just, I don't, it just hit way different. Because again, I've always, because even if you just, and this is from a biblical terminology. If you just look it up, it's gonna say the sexual thing is so much at first. But if you look in biblically, it's the things that he forbids.

SPEAKER_00

Absolutely.

SPEAKER_03

And I was like, man, woo.

SPEAKER_00

That opens it up broader.

SPEAKER_03

Yes. Yeah. Because I literally thought it was tunnel vision, this, yeah, but it's a magnitude of things. Because you gotta understand all the different things that he's forbidden, and all the different things he said is not for us. That's right. And a lot of the and a lot of the time be the things that we want. Because of that flesh. Exactly. But that I just had to say that because that hit different. And the thing that, and I'm gonna get the Bible verse that came right after that when I was studying. It's in Matthew 5 and 28. But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart. In his heart. That's it. Like I said, that hit different. When I combined them two together, it's like it opened my eyes to a whole different perspective of this. I never, when you first said it, I'm like, man, I ain't never been in no coveting thing. I don't know from what I thought of. But when I start studying, I said, Lord, it hit different.

SPEAKER_00

That's why, that's why we had to bring forth this topic.

SPEAKER_03

You know, it's deeper than I thought it was.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, yeah. Because I be questioning God sometimes, not questioning, like, why, but I'm like, why were we supposed to talk about this? And then when I start diving into it, I'm like, ooh, this is gonna be really good. Because I my toes start hurting because he stepped on too much. I got this. I got not so pretty.

SPEAKER_03

Especially with from that Bible verse, especially with the where the world now. Come on now, everybody walking around half naked. Yeah. Man, that's a whole lot of lot of sin. Just from looking, you're like, wow. And I'm just being very transparent. I'm a man, I like women. I love women. That was one of my biggest things. But to look and just to look and the and any thought that comes of that nature is a sin, I said, ooh, see.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, lust is a man, that's one of the uh hardest sins.

SPEAKER_03

It don't even have to be an action, it can just be a thought.

SPEAKER_00

The devil lusted after God. He wanted what he had. So who who are we to think that we are beyond lust, period?

SPEAKER_03

That's true. I just didn't see it. I definitely did not see it in that perspective. I didn't. Yeah. I did not at all. That's why I said it hidden from Judas.

SPEAKER_04

What about old Judas Iscariot, this character in the Bible? And I mean character with a heavy undertone. John, and you can read about that, John 12, 6, Matthew 26, 14 to 15. Was the treasure for Jesus and the disciples. Judas regularly embezzled funds from the money bag.

SPEAKER_07

Jesus.

SPEAKER_04

His covetousness culminated in him betraying Jesus to the religious authorities for 30 pieces of silver. 30. 30.

SPEAKER_00

And he tried to give it back.

SPEAKER_04

All too late. They said no take backs. Like, no, gonna keep that. You earned your spot, no take backs.

SPEAKER_03

Don't keep that. Well, could you imagine being here but just finding out who Jesus really was?

SPEAKER_04

Man.

SPEAKER_00

Well, he knew who Jesus was. That was the worst part. Judas knew he was right there the whole time. That's it's a hard posture. Who's it was greed too?

SPEAKER_02

That's true. Yeah. But that's just that was just full of, he was greedy. Yeah. Like he was coming at. Well, yeah, I'm gonna get that. And you a thief? You all that, like you said, all them sins popping up because of that. I just want to encourage the audience too to read about um, you know, the Ten Commandments didn't go away. No. Jesus said, no, he didn't come to destroy the law, but he came to fulfill it. Fulfill it, amen. And so if you go back to uh Exodus the 20th chapter and read that about covenants uh in uh the 17th verse, uh it's gonna tell you a whole bunch of things that you shouldn't, what you said, God forbid. Yeah. In other words, God forbid that. And we still doing that today. Look at that motorcycle, you got one. I ain't got one like that one. Yeah, you go.

SPEAKER_04

Oh, not like that one though. It's a crazy word, I'm finding out. I ain't got one like that though.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, yeah. And there you go, getting messed up.

SPEAKER_00

Give me that.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Oh Lord Jesus.

SPEAKER_02

This is this is um this is an eye opener. It was my goodness gracious. I want to ask a couple of more questions.

SPEAKER_00

No, you're fine. I'll just interject anytime. Um this is an envy check. Do I feel frustrated when others receive blessings? I want it. Shame on shame on us. That's a good question. But it is. I was reading the case. Because it's it's not what you might be. Come on. You can't say I ain't no hater, but in your the Lord knows your heart. But you a liar.

SPEAKER_02

That's in my life.

SPEAKER_00

My stomach is starting to bubble up. How they get that? That how they get that? How they get that when I wanted it. Oh, I should have had it. I should have been done had it. We doing a lot of ebonics just when it's mad. It's crazy.

SPEAKER_04

I don't have this story of a Facebook, the man who thought he's supposed to get promoted at the fast food place. Beat the lady up who got promoted.

SPEAKER_00

See what I'm saying? That's they locked them up. See? He should be. This is the Bible being fulfilled. We have to understand. That's why God gave us this topic to talk about, because covetousness runs rampant. It's full of the demons.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Wanting things or something or anything.

SPEAKER_03

That's what life is about now. It's the same. Everybody's about materialistic things, money and material things. Not God. I was just talking to somebody about that. How you why people like being single and ask them, if you just ask a general person that's single what they're looking for, they never say love. You don't hear that no more. And I'm dead serious. If y'all got any single friends, anybody single friends, ask your friends, anybody that that that one question. And I guarantee you, majority of the times they don't mention love.

SPEAKER_00

My God. What are we striving for? Because we're not here. So what are you striving for? Do I believe God is enough for me if it even if he never gives me what I want? What's your hidden agenda behind being a follower of Christ? Some people have hidden agendas. I definitely learned that.

SPEAKER_03

Wow.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Show a fake. Amen, Tanya. I believe that.

SPEAKER_00

She says, that's all I want is to be to love and to be loved.

SPEAKER_02

Amen. Me too. You said that behind that. I thought about that young rich ruler. That's not fool. Yeah. Jesus said. He said, go and sell. Jesus said, go sell all that you have.

SPEAKER_00

Say that again.

SPEAKER_02

What? Which one? What the about the young ruler. Yeah, he man, he had that, he had some motive. I don't know what he had, but he he was so full of pride and covetousness. And Jesus just said, What you what you need to do is just go sell out. I kept all the commandments. I don't know. He sure said it. But you forgot the tenth one that says covet. Yeah. And that's all he did. And I always used to think like if he would have sold his goods, he still would have been rich. Yep, sure. Because the whole town is not poor people. Mm-hmm. And just give to the poor. And that's what I was saying about the best practice against covenantists is to give. Yes, man. But that young rich ruler was so proudful and said he they said he, the Bible said he went away with his head down and he was sad. He should have. Because he didn't want salvation. He wanted what he had.

SPEAKER_07

Oh wow. Yeah. Wow.

SPEAKER_02

That's the truth.

SPEAKER_00

He wanted what he wants. That's why he walked away like that. Because he said, Luke to read about and Luke 18. Yeah. And then Fat come follow me and follow me.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Still with a big thing.

SPEAKER_03

Everything gotta go. Give me one dollar. It's all gone.

SPEAKER_02

But we caused uh damnation on our own selves.

SPEAKER_00

That's true. Sure do. Yeah. Oh God. Do you uh have anything? This was good. No, y'all have anything more to add?

SPEAKER_03

Just to guard yourself against it. Go ahead. I got some y'all got some Bible verses like to help.

SPEAKER_00

And then one of y'all please end us out with prayer.

SPEAKER_04

So Psalms 119 36 says, Incline my heart unto thy testimonies and not to covetousness.

SPEAKER_03

Yes. And I have, well, I have a few things to uh help counter covet a covet a covet lifestyle of covet living. Uh one way to to um a counter life, to counter a covetous life, develop an attitude of godliness and contentment. Hebrews 13 and 5 says, Let your conversations be without covetousness.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

And be content with such things as ye have. For he has said, I will never leave thee nor forsake thee. And I'm gonna just give some more Bible verses that you all can check out. Um, first Kings chapter 21, 1 through 16, uh 1 Timothy chapter 6. I know Miss Power was there early, but 6 through 10. And 1 Thessalonians 5 and 18.

SPEAKER_00

I got one last question before anybody praise us out. Uh this is the the repentance path. What specific desires do we need to surrender to God today? What specific desires do we need to surrender to God today? That's personal. Pray on it and talk to him. If there's a desire that you know that somebody else has that you want, pray then, ask God to remove that request from you. Because he's gonna give you what you have to have anyway. Anybody want to pray as out?

SPEAKER_03

Okay. And we ask that you continue to cover us and help us in the things that we may be coveting and we have a strong desire for. I ask that you take that away from whatever that is, just bind it up and take it away so that we can continue to work on this flesh and continue to rid it of the sins and the things of uh this worldly nature, Lord. I ask that you continue to give the wisdom and the guidance through the Holy Spirit so that that we all stay aligned when it comes to this, um, especially the subject of covetedness. Yes, I just thank you for the gain wisdom through this because I did not even know that this was that big of a broad of a uh um thing, Lord. So I ask that you continue to keep their spiritual eyes open so that we can continue to grow and continue to move in in your way, and that if there even is a detour or any type of spirit or thing that is trying to block or detour, Lord, that you continue to move them out of the way so we can continue to move only in your way and your way only, Lord. Ask that if there's any listeners out there that they may have been wavering or may not know Jesus Christ, that they come to Jesus Christ today and that they believe in him as Lord and Savior, Lord, because that is the one and only true way. And I ask that the ones that are gaining wisdom with us, that they start to go out, and they have that they use the task of saving souls too, because that's the task of all us Christians, Lord. It's all about filling the kingdom with more souls than your glory. Yeah. And you receive all the glory through it all. These are the things that in Jesus' name. Amen. Amen.

SPEAKER_00

Thank you, Lord. That's good.

SPEAKER_02

Amen.

SPEAKER_00

That's good, that's good. Thank you, Lord. Thanks for tuning in, and we look forward to having you back next week.
